Healthy and still Tasty!
I think it’s safe to say that we can all afford to make healthy substitutes now and again and this can be done without sacrificing flavour…I promise! Plant based alternatives have been all the rage these last few years, and for good reason. They’re of course healthy while also satisfying our taste buds. I’m not quite sure if I’m ready to dive into cricket powder just yet but I was eager to dive into some products that have recently hit shelves. Using the Patty Utensil, I decided to start with Beyond Beef’s plant-based ground meat. I added some garlic powder, celery salt, pepper, chili flakes, and paprika for an added kick. Using a fork to quickly incorporate the added spices, I forked the mixture into the Patty Utensil and formed thick patties as I wanted to see if the burgers would still release those quintessential juices that escape during each bite of a traditional hamburger.
I constructed a picture-perfect meatless patty and it was time to dive in. This meatless burger was flavourful, had a great texture, and most importantly for me, it was just as juicy as any other traditional hamburger! It’s so nice to have a super easy to make meat substitute that doesn’t require me to mince mushrooms or boil chickpeas for an hour just to make a patty. Those recipes are wonderful but the convenience of having a grab and go plant-based ground “meat” is an absolute game changer in the kitchen! In addition to having a flavourful, healthy alternative, you can also accommodate any veg heads coming over for a backyard cookout.
